Already 2016, I’m ready for you! Or at least I think I am. You create plenty of resolutions for yourself to improve during this new year, whether it’s to slim down, gain muscle, become more confident, eat less junk food, get organized, travel more, or something else. Usually, new year’s resolutions center around your personal well-being. But what if you’re a marketer? Aren’t there any good new year’s resolutions to help us get better during the upcoming year? Sure there are!
How are you looking to improve your marketing as we roll into 2016? Are you vowing to blog more consistently? (We see you clicking that forgot password button as you try to log back into your old WordPress blog). Or maybe you are promising yourself to optimize your social media time better? (Whatever that means). Maybe you aren’t sure what to do! Below are some ideas to help get the brain pumping with new ideas for 2016.
- Write something every day
This resolution is for the writers out there: content writers, copywriters, headline writers. The only way to get better at your craft is to do it…a lot! Make it a habit this year to write every day. Daily Page will email you a new writing prompt each day to help get those creative juices flowing. You don’t have to write about marketing, just write anything!
- Stay in the know
Marketing is constantly changing. It’s a field where you want to stay on top of the latest news, especially if you are in the fast paced world of social media where a news event can impact what you want to Tweet out. A great way to stay on top of news, marketing, business, just about anything is by listening to podcasts.
- Create priorities
If you’re too busy to even say “I’m busy”, then you need to slow down, take a step back, and prioritize. Determine what your core competencies are. Are you best at finding new clients or connecting with customers on social media? Maybe it’s time to hire somebody to do the extra stuff that is taking up too much of your time.
Knowledge is power! I’m not sure who said that but I bet they read a lot. The more you know, the better you’ll be at your profession. It’s always important to keep learning, you can never learn too many new things. The problem is keeping all those new ideas in your head. Try keeping a reading log and do some active reading, where you make notes and highlight (if you own the book). You can even make notes in a Kindle.
- Get some rest
This isn’t just for marketers, it’s important for everyone. Some people say they can feel rested on just a few hours of sleep. Good for them but if you’re not one of those people then you need to make time for sleep. This is the best way you can ensure a productive and efficient work day.
