Starbucks continues to be at the forefront of online marketing. We love to see businesses leverage all that social media has to offer and cannot deny that Starbucks leads the way when it comes to innovative ideas that bring in BIG bucks.
Last October, Starbucks launched a new social media campaign on Twitter called “Tweet-a-Coffee.” The way it works is easy and it’s proving to be a great marketing tool! The campaign allows customers to connect their Starbucks account to their Twitter account. Then customers can buy a coffee for anyone on Twitter by tweeting @tweetacoffee and the person’s Twitter handle (ex: @MARKIT_Group). The tweet sends your follower a $5 gift card that they can redeem on their mobile device at any Starbucks.
Since it launched, over 27,000 people have tweeted a coffee generating more than $180,000 in sales in just the last few months. This campaign was successful because Starbucks took a unique idea by merging two things people love (coffee and social media!) – They clearly know how to use technology and took full advantage of their audience.
